Description
This Dictionary has a special purpose: it teaches Hindi. Rather, it teaches Hindi to English-knowing readers and English to Hindi-knowing persons. It contains about 10,500 main words of Hindi. It is primarily a usage dictionary, a comprehensive dictionary and a productive or creative work. This last quarter of the 20th century is marked by production of a large number of such dictionaries in European languages. But they are monolingual dictionaries. Bilingual dictionaries are few. This dictionary is an attempt in this direction, the first one in an Indian language. Chapter titled Introduction explains what this Dictionary contains, and sets down elaborate hints on Hindi pronunciation and writing. In the appendices are given classified lists of words relating to various spheres of life. A brief guide to names of persons, mythological and historical personages, and a gazetteer of India has also been appended.Dr. Hardev Bahri is one of the most renowned lexicographers of India. He has authored and published several books like English Hindi Dictionary, Rajpal Advanced Learners English Hindi Dictionary and Rajpal English Hindi Dictionary of Technical Terms, etc.
